What does shelf-stable mean? It means a product is able to survive for long periods on pantry shelves without spoiling.
But how long is a long time? Well technically, since our shelf-stable products are cooked to sterilization after being vacuum-sealed in their own environment, they do not ever spoil, as long as that sealed container is not leaking or damaged.
However, the nutrients within the food will break down over time as they do with all food.
What does this mean? Is the product no-longer shelf stable? The product remains shelf-stable and safe for consumption. This simply means that amount of protein, vitamins, and other nutrients (per serving) in the product will slowly decline compared to how it is listed on the packaging.
How Long Does This Take? A very long time. The decline in the nutritional values of the product will not begin any earlier than 7-years for our pouches and giftboxes and no sooner than 5 years for our canned and jarred products.
